I have three favorite memories from this school year. My absolute most favorite memory was when I fell off my chair. It was 7th period and me and friends were sitting at the wooden table that we usually sat at. We had a substitute teacher that day and the students were working on their Smallest Dragon Boy posters. I was writing down one of my sentences and then I realized that I had wrote it up side down. I thought I could erase it but I realized I wrote all of my sentences up side down. I was really frustrated so I threw my pencil at my iPad. It bounced off my iPad and fell to the floor. I didn’t want to get out of my seat so I reach over to get my pencil while I was still on my chair. As I barely touched it I fell hard to the ground from my left side. I fell so hard it made a loud thud sound. Everyone looked at me and the substitute teacher came over to my chair and asked if I was alright. I was fine but it really hurt my side for a while. To this day my friends still make up of me for it. My second favorite memory was when me and my friends had to film a music video for my video production class. It was really fun to film and edit! It so cool how most of our shots were in Mexico! Only our main actor went to Mexico but it was still so much fun to edit. I got a really good grade on it! My third favorite memory was when me and my cousin had to take a picture together for the year book. When we first got the paper saying that we won best friends of the year (I think). We didn’t go and then we got a second piece of paper and we still didn’t go. The third time we got a paper saying they really wanted us to take a picture together and they even offered us ice cream. We went the third time because there was ice cream! We took some fun pictures even though I couldn’t stop laughing. When they were done taking pictures they gave us our ice cream! That was some really delicious ice cream!
20% Project #5: ASL
This week I started gathering information about the history of ASL so I can write my speech. I also started working on my trifold after gathering some information. I found out some cool facts about ASL like how it’s the third most used language in the U.S.A. My goal for next week is to get my trifold all finished like having pictures and decorating it very nicely. Another goal is to also finish writing my speech.
Mother’s Day
My mum is the most important woman in my life. She is caring, loving, funny, and cheerful. My mum is my personal cheerleader and I love that about her. Whenever I feel like giving up on something she always says something to make me keep going. I also love how funny my mum is. She is always making me laugh and smile. My mum is also very hardworking. She works extremely hard to give me a good education. She always spoils me with stuff and I am always so grateful when she does that. My mother is the best mother in the entire universe!
20% Project #4: ASL
For this week I accomplished my goal by learning how to sign “Goodbye see you later.” “Wake up it’s time to get dressed.” “Go brush your teeth” “I’m going to take a bath” and more. I also learned how to sign the days of the week. My struggle was that I couldn’t remember how to sign the days of the week. But the thing that helped me was that I slowed down my video so I made sure I was doing the right hand movement. I didn’t have any adjustments other than slowing down my video. My goal for next week is to search up the history of ASL and take down notes. But also to start working on my trifold.
20% Project #3: ASL
While working on my 20% project this week, I learned how to sign “How are you?” “Nice to meet you” “My name is” “I am 13 years old” “What’s up?” “Good morning” and more. I didn’t have a struggles or issues this week. I also didn’t have an adjustments to make. My goal for next week is to continue to practice these sentences and to also learn how to sign longer and more detailed sentences.
20% Project #2: ASL
This week my goal was to learn more words and also learn some short sentences that I thought were important to know. I accomplished my goal for this week and learned some short sentences like “I’m sad” “What’s your name?” “Nice to meet you” “What’s up?” “How was your day?” “Where are you from?” “What’s wrong?” and more. I had some struggles while learning some of these sentences. I was sometimes doing the movement wrong or I couldn’t remember certain words. I helped myself remember by doing a specific sentence over and over again. I eventually remembered how to do the movement and how to sign certain words. Next week I will still be working on short sentences but I will also be learning how to do longer sentences. I want to learn how to do longer sentences so I can have more conversations with people. I’m excited to keep learning ASL.
20% Project Week 1: ASL
Hello my name is Maryann and for my 20% project I am learning American Sign Language or also known as ASL. This week my goal was to learn the alphabet. I also wanted to learn some words. I accomplished my goal and learned some words like “milk” “what?” “want” “hello” “food” and more. I found a lot of helpful videos on YouTube that really helped me. Some struggles I had were memorizing some words and certain letters. A way that helped me remember these words were to first make sure I was doing it right and then doing it over and over again until I felt like I could remember how to do the sign without the video. Learning ASL is honestly a really awesome skill to have. You can communicate with more people and make more friends. Next week I want to learn more words and some short important sentences.
My Favorite Room…
My favorite room in my house is my bedroom. My bedroom is my favorite room because it’s the only place where I can get privacy. I can’t get privacy in the living or kitchen because it’s the most popular rooms in the house and I can’t be in the bathroom without someone knocking on the door and asking to use the bathroom. A second reason why my bedroom is my favorite room is because it has my comfortable bed in it. My bed has a lot of pillows and plushies with a grey and pink blanket but something so cool about my bed is that the headboard has LED lights around it. The third and final reason I love my bedroom is because it has all my prized possessions.
Ocean Creature
There was a girl her names was Marie. She lived near the beach. She would always go down and find sea shells. Sometimes she would swim or play beach volleyball with her friends. She always loved the ocean since she was a little girl. One day when she was swimming and something grabbed her from below. The creature that grabbed her dragged her down deep into the dark blue water. She tried to scream and tried to swim back up to the top but the creature was too strong. She was running out of breath. She was praying it was all a dream. Marie tried to see what the monster looked like but it was too dark to see. She used her free leg that wasn’t in the monster’s hand and tried to kick. She kicked and kicked and kicked. She was about to give up but then she kicked something that felt like a head. She felt the creature let go of her and screech. She wanted to see what the creature looked like but she was too desperate for air. Kicking her feet hard to try to reach she felt kind of bad kicking the thing that grabbed her. She grasped for air as she reached the top but then she felt the creature grab her ankle. The creature pulled her back down to the floor of the ocean and began to rip each limb off her body. “Where’s Marie?” asked Marie’s mother. “She said she went to go for a swim.” said Marie’s older sister. “She better not be late for dinner again!” her mother said sounding upset. After four hours Marie still hadn’t come home. “Where in the world is she?! She missed dinner again!!” shouted Marie’s mother. “Mom you need to calm down. Maybe she went to a friends house.” said Marie’s younger brother. “She should have at least texted or called one of us!” The next day Marie’s sister and brother went out to ask some of Marie’s friends if they had seen her. “Nope.” said one of Marie’s friends. “Not since three days ago.” said another. “I saw at the beach yesterday.” said Marie’s best friend. “But that was around 2 pm.” Marie’s siblings lost hope. “Where could she be?!” said June (Marie’s sister). “Can’t we just go to the police? It’s been more than 24 hours right?” suggested Alex (Marie’s brother). “Let’s just go home.” Once June and Alex got home they saw police surrounding their house. “What’s going on?” Alex said as he walked up to his mother. “The police said they found Marie…” “Actually?! Where was she?” “They didn’t find her…alive.” their mother said as she started to tear up. “What? What do you mean they didn’t find her alive?!” Alex shout. “The police said a fisherman saw her head sticking out of the water and thought she was passed out but when the fisherman went closer to her head he saw that she was decapitated….” June and Alex were too stunned to speak. A few weeks after Marie’s death and her funeral the beach that she was lasted seen at was closed to the public for multiple years. To this day no one knows what kind of creature that took a young beautiful teenage girl’s life looks like.
Rad Reading – March
For this month, I read Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan. This story is about a boy named Paul who is a sophomore in high school. He gets caught in a love triangle with the new boy Noah and his ex boyfriend Kyle. Paul feels like his best friend Joni is drifting away and his other best friend is in a hard situation with his religious parents.
I recommend this book because it’s so romantic and heart warming. It has a lot of drama and so many interesting characters. Words to describe this book are funny, loving, thoughtful, and sweet. It’s a short book but it’s a good one.
My favorite character is Paul. Paul is my favorite character because he cares about other people’s feelings and when he does something wrong or bad he will always try to make up for his mistakes. One of Paul’s character traits is thoughtful. A quote that proves this character trait is, “I wonder if it’s possible to start a new relationship without hurting someone else.” This proves that Paul is thoughtful because even though he wants to start a new relationship with someone else he doesn’t want it to negatively affect someone else he cares about.
My favorite quote from Boy Meets Boy is, “But I want to feel like life matters. I had something real with you, but then the realness scared me. I decided to go for other things instead.” This is my favorite quote because it’s relatable. Other people have gone through something similar to this. It shows that when people love something or they feel something that they usually don’t feel or have never felt it makes them scared, so they try to run away from it or they try to distract themselves from their own feelings.
